Appreciate The Sounds Of The Colorado Symphony

By Shannon Reeves

The Colorado symphony celebrated its twentieth anniversary of performing back in 2009. Its 2011 and 2012 program continues its tradition of Masterworks concerts, pops performances, family shows and holiday performances. They also continued the summer park concert shows and they expect to do so again next summer.

The symphony will also collaborate with other performing artists. Upcoming shows featuring famous performers include shows with Renee Fleming, Patti Lupone and the quartet Celtic Woman. The Masterworks series begins with an opening night concert conducted by Yan Pascal Tortelier. In October, Beethoven's Seventh will be conducted by Peter Oundjian. Another show will be a multimedia production that features a orchestral suite juxtaposed with NASA images of the planets.

Family friendly shows will include a special Halloween production that will treat children and adults alike to the creepy, spooky sounds of the Halloween holiday. Another family show will highlight percussion by featuring the 'Drums of the World'. A winter show will introduce children to the music of Mozart, the child prodigy.

The holiday season will include two amazing shows. A Colorado Christmas will play time-honored Christmas carols that children and adults of all ages will enjoy. The following weekend, 'Messiah by Candlelight' will feature a choral masterpiece that will end with the powerful 'Hallelujah' chorus.

Other future performances will include Tchaikovsky Four and 'Shakespeare in Music'. The Shakespeare inspired show will highlight famous plays such as Romeo and Juliet and a Midsummer Night's Dream. The innovative orchestra also recently paid homage to the victims of 9/11 when they teamed up with The Beach Boys to give a free concert on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The Colorado symphony blends contemporary and classical sounds with talented musicians and innovative programs. Spectators can enjoy the beautiful sounds of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. With so many unique shows planned, fans will have plenty of opportunities to experience the amazing talents on display. The orchestra can be enjoyed by families or individuals every season of the year.
